Summer 2016 - Photo Journal from Iitate-mura branch

This is the report from Hiroki Kanno (18 years old) from Iitate-mura branch of Fukushima.

This photo story is about his home town which will have a big turning point - a declaration of the return to the village.

Hiroki is still taking photos of his home town even after his graduation of high school.

Please read his previous report “Five years after the disaster” as well.

Iitate-mura village plans it will declare to finish evacuation next March.

The decontamination of the hill behind my house has now been done a second time.

After the first decontamination work, the amount of radioactivity had not dropped so it needed a second phase of decontamination work.

They focused more on decontamination work at the place called “hotspot”.

My grandparents are tidying up and preparing for coming back home.

At Hiso district, the decontamination work is still continuing.

However, there are many flexible storage bags with contaminated soil everywhere in the village.

After the decontamination work, these storage bags are moved to the temporary yard.

Still, there are many spots where the radioactivity is still higher than 1gSv/h.

Like this situation, I don't think the young people who worry about radioactivity wouldn't come back to the village.
